S4, Episode Eight, Djehuty Speaks, Approaching Love, Your Relationships With Animals

"...You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves...." ~Mary Oliver, Wild Geese

We love our animals and the scope of our love is easily measured by how we treat them. There are two ends to this spectrum of love. Our domestic pets we treat as children and that includes all the projections and how we anthropomorphize the animals to reflect our sweetest human traits. On the other end of the spectrum, we torture and eat them.

Essentially animals are our teachers. They are showing us the "...soft animal of our body..." of which Mary Oliver speaks. We are not the best students as we have inherited a rather huge but very human blind spot with so many generations of seeing ourselves as superior to our animal parts and the animal beings around us. There is nothing quite as obvious of our hypocrisy as how we live out our relationships to animals.

This is stated not to shame people but to help us understand that there is a vast array of lifetimes logged in where this idea of humanity being an overlord of all of nature has been set into our minds as as being normal. This lesson is to suggest that this is a time where our treating of animals can be reviewed and assessed anew. These animals are beings who, too, have signed up to help us learn as representatives of the earth being, who they are aligned with. They give their lives willingly whether we acknowledge that or not. They are showing us how to love our own animal natures, if we are willing to look we can live with a new appreciation.

This is appropriately the last chapter in the Approaching Love section of these teachings because it is, in truth, our true nature that we seek in how we approach loving each other and our lives.
